Melanotan II (MT-II) is a synthetic peptide analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), a naturally occurring hormone in the body that plays a key role in regulating skin pigmentation, energy metabolism, and sexual function.

Originally developed as a potential treatment for skin and UV protection, Melanotan II works by stimulating melanocortin receptors, particularly the MC1R receptor, which increases the production of melanin in skin cells.
